Romania has deposits containing 700 tons of gold and another 2000 tons of silver, according to Agerpres newswire that quotes Alexandru Patruti, president of the Romanian Mining Resource Agency. This statement was made in a conference focused on energy.
Patruti stated that several companies have disclosed information regarding licensed deposits. Thus, approximately 700 tons of gold and 2000 tons of silver can be unearthed from deposits located in Rosia Poieni, Rosia Montana, Certej and Baita Craciunesti.
During the same conference, Cladiu Stafie, state secretary for the Economy Ministry, expressed his agreement regarding the Rosia Montana mining project, adding that only environmental certificates have to be issued before mining works can begin.
RMGC (Rosia Montana Gold Corporation) expects to extract 245 tons of gold and 900 tons of silver, according to Cecilia Szentesy, technical designer of the Rosia Montana project. Szentesy added that 20 percent of the deposits are lost due to the exploitation process.
The Environment and Forestry minister, Laszlo Borbeley, declared on September 6 that Rosia Montana will receive a green light permit once he is convinced that pollution risks are eluded.
