Gloria, the oldest offshore drilling rig in Romania, retires after 40 years of service and will be removed from the Black Sea.
Gloria is operated by OMV Petrom, the largest local oil & gas company, and currently extracts hydrocarbons from the Black Sea.
The offshore platform will be decommissioned on May 1 and will cease all operations, according to the Romanian mineral resources regulator (ANRM).
“On May 1, gas exploitation on the Gloria platform will be completely shut down, which will be decommissioned by the end of last year and cut to scrap metal,” said Sorin Gal, the head of a department of ANRM.
Gloria is the first Romanian offshore platform in the Black Sea. The platform started operations in 1975, during the Communist regime.
