The Romanian state got over EUR 14.9 mln from the sale of carbon certificates in May on an auction on the common platform of the European Union.
In May, the country has traded over 2.5 million certificates associated with fixed installations valued at EUR 14.8 million. In the aviation sector 14,000 certificates were traded valued at EUR 80,080.
In January, the Finance Ministry got over EUR 16.5 million from this type of certificates, in February around EUR 18.7 million, in March EUR 17.9 million and in April EUR 18.8 million.
According to the Ministry, the trading plan for certificates of greenhouse gas emissions within European Union (EU Emission Trading Scheme — EU ETS) was applied firstly during January 1, 2005 – December 31, 2007 and in the second phase during 2008-2012 according to the first commitment phase of Kyoto protocol.
Romania has been part of the the EU plan of trading greenhouse gas emissions since joining the EU.
The third stage of EU ETS plan has a period of eight years between January 1, 2013 and December 31 2020.
