RisCo: Over 160.000 Romanian companies are valued under EUR 1.000

Only 37 companies active in Romania (out of a total of 600.000) have a market value of over EUR 500 mln, shows a RisCo report. Over a quarter of all the companies in the country have a market value of under EUR 1.000., writes economica.net.

162.455 companies had a value of 1,000 or lower at the end of 2013.

“In order to know the Romanian economy’s standing on the global and European scene, we must know how many companies have enough resources to be competitive on a wider integrate market. Less then 30.000 companies had a market value of EUR 1 million and less then 5.000 had a market value of over EUR 10 million, at the end of 2013”, says Dragos Cabat, Managing Partner RisCo.

Since most companies are small, the analysts proposes that “government policies should focus on this segment”.

Other 159.000 companies present a very high insolvency risk and out of those, 3,346 entered insolvency last year. On the other hand, for nearly 230.000 firms, the probability to enter insolvency is very small, at the most 10%. Companies in construction, retail and services are the most vulnerable to insolvency.

Other 22.000 firms completely ceased their activities last year.
