The number of nights spent in Romanian hotels  grew by 4 percent in 2017, to more than 20 million, reaching an all-time high, boosted by the inflow of tourists, according to Cushman & Wakefield Echinox study.

Nights spent in Romanian hotels have increased for the seventh consecutive year in 2017.  Romania has around 100,000 hotel rooms, with an occupancy rate of 39.4 percent in 2017, up from 29.9 percent in 2010.

Last year, tourism industry surged to a record 12 million tourists in Romania, with a record number of 2.75 million foreign visitors arrivals, most of them being accommodated in hotels.

Hotels located in Bucharest, Constanța, Brașov, Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu attracted the highest number of tourists in 2017, but the city of Iași posted the highest occupancy rate (45.6 percent), followed by Bucharest (44.7 percent).

Higher revenues made Romanian hotel industry more attractive for investors, two major transactions being completed in 2017, with a total value of EUR 183 million.

Bucharest retains its first position in tourism industry due mainly to business trips, the Romanian Capital city being a minor attraction for city-breaks compared to Prague or Budapest, experts say.

Within the next three years, hotel capacity in Bucharest will grow with 10 percent, study estimates.
