Rate of bad loans in Romania down to 9.26 pct in April

The non-performing loans (NPL) rate went down to 9.26 percent in April compared with March, according to the data of the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

Compared with April 2016, the rate fell by 3.85 percentage points.

According to BNR, the number of individuals with back payments longer than 30 days to banks and non-financial institutions decreased by 0.8 percent in April, compared with March to 668,682.

These persons had back payments of over RON 8 billion. The biggest part of the amount was in RON and EUR, respectively 3.08 billion in RON and 3.29 billion in EUR.

According to the delay category, the highest value corresponds to over 90 days period with RON 4.52 billion.

The total value of the residual loans in RON of individuals and firms amounted to RON 6.09 billion in May, a growth of 0.06 percent compared with April and the residuals of loans in foreign currency dropped by 3.7 percent to RON 6.86 billion, according to the BNR.

The total loans in RON amounted RON 133 billion in May, by 1.42 percent over the value from April, out of which RON 58.66 billion were amounts for companies and RON 71.054 billion worth if loans of individuals.

The loans in foreign currency amounted to 94.222 billion equivalent in RON in May, out of which RON 47.11 billion loans for firms and RON 44.623 billion loans of individuals.
