President Klaus Iohannis has signed legislation for the regulation of telework, according to which any employee can work elsewhere than in the offices of the company where they are employed, and employers will have fewer responsibilities related to the workplace.

The bill was adopted by the government in August of last year and approved by the parliament at the end of February.

The law describes telework as “the type of work in which the employee, regularly and voluntarily, fulfils his work-related attributions elsewhere than at the workplace established by the employer, at least one day per month, using information and communication technologies.

This type of work is established through the agreement of the employer and the employee and has to be mentioned in the work contract.

The employer can work at the company headquarters as well, as long as the days are mentioned in the contract.

The fines for not following the regulations go up to RON 10,000.
