Online transactions were up by 67 percent year-on-year on Black Friday 2016, and stood at RON 113.3 million, PayU Romania.

Between November 18-20, there were 188,000 online transactions. Out of the total, 31 percent were made using the credit cards with fixed installments. The retail sectors that attracted most online payments was the It&C, with 59 percent and recorded a 52.3 percent growth. Fashion products represent 5 percent of the total, up by 50.3 percent year-on-year.

The highest growth, of 29 percent, representing a 125 percent growth, was recorded in the sale of products such as furniture, interior design, toys, books, food, make-up, wines and more.

This year’s Black Friday event exceeded our expectations. For a part of merchants, Black Friday started at midnight, however at 7 am we recorded a spectaculous boost on the PayU platform, up to 500 transactions per minute, double year-on-year. Compared to last years, we recorded a constant evolution of online payment, said Marius Costin, Country Manager PayU Romania.

This year PayU processed payments from 87 countries, with most coming from Lithuania (average value of RON 1,771), Finland (RON 1,250), Slovenia (RON 874), Russia (RON 651) and Romania (RON 623).
