At this second edition of Oxford for Romania where ambitious Romanian students coming from less privileged backgrounds have the chance to experience one week of education at Oxford, in a summer school, a fundraising campaign has been launched. The courses will take place August 26-September 3, 2017, at Oxford University.

This year they have received a record number of 430 applications, out of which they have selected 24 remarkable young people. So far they managed to secure funding for most of them, through the kindness of several organisations and individuals in Romania and the UK. The costs are up to GBP 1,000 for transportation, accommodation, meals and educational materials.

Oxford for Romania is a week-long, multidisciplinary summer school for Romanian high school students with great academic potential and limited financial means. The school aims to inspire students to fulfil their potential, through life-changing encounters and immersion in the Oxford environment.

Established in 2016, the program enables a growth mindset and the spirit of community engagement. Their volunteer lecturers and guest speakers deliver courses and workshops inspired by the Oxford style of teaching. These cover a variety of topics, from Astrophysics and Neuroscience, to Media Literacy, Political Culture and Personal Development.

What they need to make this possible

Travelling and housing make up the bulk of the school’s costs. With food and materials included, a full scholarship amounts to GBP 1,000 per student. All tutors and organisers are volunteering their time and expertise. Donations can be done using https://www.youcaring.com/oxfordforromania-885538 fundraising platform.
