One third of Romanians keep out-of-order household appliances– most often TV sets (41.2 percent of the cases), refrigerators (19.9 percent), washing machines (19.5 percent) and vacuum cleaners (16.5 percent)- according to a survey carried out by Daedalus Millward Brown at the request of ECOTIC and Recolamp.

Other devices that exist in the Romanian households are ironing machine (9.7 percent), radio (8.6 percent), PC (7.9 percent), microwave oven (7.1 percent), printer (7.1 percent), cassette player (6.7 percent), laptop (1.9 percent), economic light bulbs (0.7 percent) and air conditioning (0.4 percent) as well as other (26.6 percent)

The reasons for which Romanians living in the city find it hard to part with their household equipment have to do with the fact that they intend to repair it, don’t know what to do with the WEEE waste, don’t have the time to dispose of it (in 28 percent of the cases) or do not have a recycling facility nearby (in 57.7 percent of the cases).

The reasons that trigger a good response in favor of recycling are that these products can be reused (47 percent of asnwers) and help environment protection (55 percent of the answers). Urban Romanians are also motivated by reasons such as clearing up the household, price discounts when acquiring certain products, and the existence of some collection points nearby.
