Net nominal average salary down 1.4 pct in August, to RON 2,669

In August 2018, the gross nominal average income was RON 4,449, 1.4 percent lower than in July, and the nominal average net income was RON 2,669, down by RON 39, or 1.4 percent, compared to the previous month, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In August, in most economic sector activities, the average net income was lower than in July 2018, as a result of the occasional award of occasional prizes, in-kind rights and cash benefits, sums of net profit and other earnings funds, including meal vouchers and gift vouchers.

Also, decreases in net average earning were caused by lower production or lower receipts (depending on contracts or projects or as a result of holiday breaks when no meal tickets and other wage entitlements are granted).

The most significant decreases in net average earning were recorded in:

  • coal extraction, with 17,1 percent;
  • between 5 percent and 8 percent in the manufacture of road transport vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, storage and auxiliary transport activities, other non-industrial activities, production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning , insurance, reinsurance and pension funds (except those in the public social insurance system), the extraction of metallic ores, the manufacture of rubber and plastics products;
  • between 3,5 percent and 5 percent in financial intermediation (except insurance and pension funding), tanning and finishing of hides and skins (including the making-out of luggage and leather goods, harness and footwear, preparation and dyeing of fur) tobacco products, water capture, treatment and distribution, information technology services (including computer service activities), financial intermediation, insurance and pension funding activities.

The most significant increases in net average earning were registered

  • in telecommunication with 5 percent
  • in publishing activities respectively with 4.9 percent;
  • between 2 percent and 3.5 percent in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, beverage production, coke oven products and products from crude oil processing, chemicals and chemicals, real estate transactions, water transport, air transport.

In the budget sector there were slight decreases in the net average earning compared to the previous month in education (-2 percent), as a result of the reduction of the amount of the teachers’ hourly payment during the school holidays), namely health and social assistance (0.5 percent). Net average earning in public administration increased by RON 1 compared to the previous month.
