The National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR) informs that it auctioned projects worth around EUR 4 billion in 2017, the highest value in the last 27 years.

Among the most important infrastructure projects that were launched this year is the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway, an important part of the Pan-European Corridor IV.

“With a value of almost RON 2.6 billion (around EUR 570 million), the offers for lots 1 and 5 are currently in their evaluation phase, and next year the two objectives will enter their projection and execution phases. CNAIR has prepared the public auction and documents for the projection and execution of lots 2, 3, and 4 of this motorway as well, all of major importance for the Romanian economy. With an estimated cost of EUR 3.3 million, the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway will complete the Pan-European Corridor, which transits through Romania.”

Another important project is the new Bucharest Belt Motorway, which will enter its projection phase next year. The objective was publicly auctioned this year. The South Sector, which is 51 kilometers long and a total value of over RON 2.6 billion (around EUR 580 million), is part of the Capital’s new Ring Road and will be similar to traffic decongestion projects built in major European cities.

Public auctions were also launched for the projection and execution of the 60 kilometers of the Suplacu de Barcau – Bors motorway. The construction may start next year, after the contract is signed and the projection phase is completed. The segment will be part of the Transylvania Motorway and will connect West Romania and Hungary, through the Bors border.

CNAIR also auctioned the projection and execution of the four lots of the Craiova-Pitesti Expressway, with a total length of 121 km and a total value of around RON 3.76 million (around EUR 820 million). The project is now being evaluated and will enter its projection phase next year, and it is seen as being of utmost importance for the economic development of South Romania.

The suspension bridge over the Danube in Braila, which is awaiting the designation of an entrepreneur, is the most complex infrastructure projects launched in Romania over the last 27 years.  At a cost of around RON 2 billion (around EUR 500 million), this objective has an 18-month projection phase, after the contract is signed.

Among the infrastructure objective for which CNAIR has launched auctions this year are the South Bypass Road in Timisoara, enlarging DN7 to 4 lanes and the Bypass Road of Barlad. The total value of these projects is around RON 740 million.

This year, CNAIR also launched public auctions for feasibility studies and technical projects for high-speed roads Focsani-Bacau, Ploiesti-Buzau, Bacau-Pascani and Buzau-Focsani, as well as the connecting road between A3 (Bucuresti-Ploiesti Motorway) and Henri Coanda Airport.
