MOL Romania opens its first electric car charging station in Bucharest

MOL Romania has opened its first charging station for electric vehicles, in the Nicolae Caramfil area in Bucharest.

Charging will be done through alternating and direct current at 50 kW, meaning that the station is compatible with any type of vehicles sold in Europe and Asia, electric or hybrid.

The station supports the simultaneous charging of two cars, and depending on the model, a car’s battery can be charged to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.

Camelia Ene, CEO and Country Chairman at MOL Romania: “The first electric car charging station we have opened in Bucharest is part of the company’s long term strategy of becoming a supplier of full mobility solutions. As a response to the market dynamic and the change in consumer behaviour, MOL will transform its retail operations into a service platform for consumers in order to respond to their various needs.”

Another component of MOL’s long term strategy is the partnership in the NEXT-E consortium, which aims to build a charging network for electric vehicles in six countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

Through NEXT-E, 222 standard rapid charging stations and 30 ultra-rapid charging stations will be installed, thus creating essential infrastructure for the charging of electric vehicles in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania. The following stations in the MOL Romania network will be opened within the NEXT-E project. 14 new electric charging stations will be opened by MOL in Romania by the end of 2018.

In parallel, MOL Romania has continued expanding its gas station network, reaching a total of 213 stations, of which 96 have a Fresh Corner.
