The public healthcare system has to keep up with the salary level of medical personnel and the medical infrastructure from the private system, so that from 2018 the salaries of medical personnel will be close to the level of EU salaries, said this Wednesday the minister of Healthcare, Florin Bodog, on his Facebook page.

“Many Romanians cannot afford to go to the private medical system. They shouldn’t be under the necessity of doing it. The payment of contributions to the healthcare insurances guarantees the access to the medical services that they need. The public healthcare system should be the not only the main medical services supplier for Romanians, but also the main quality supplier. We already made important steps to correct a part of the public system deficit. From 2018, the salaries of medical personnel will be close to the level of EU salaries. Significant increases were registered also this year,” said the minister.

Bodog added that the investments of hospitals’ equipment represent a priority.

„We’ll continue the acquisition policy of modern equipment until all the hospitals from the counties, regional and big cities will have all the facilities that our patients need,” said Bodog.

He cited an analysis according to which the public healthcare system lost 5,000 doctors from 1997 until now, while 21,000 doctors entered the private system.
