MEDIjobs Romania, the biggest recruitment platform from medical field in Romania, launched the program MEDIreturn on September 14, an initiative for all Romanian doctors who work currently in foreign countries and want to return in Romania.

To understand better the needs of doctors who left Romania, MEDIjobs developed a survey for over 50 doctors and medical assistants who work in foreign countries.

“According to the study, over 60 percent of the doctors that left the country cited the unsatisfying salary, while 25 percent of them are not actually very happy about the choice they made; over 40 percent are unsatisfied about the distance from the families and friends from Romania; 16 percent say that are unsatisfied about the stress and busy schedule that they encounter in the countries they left; 84 percent said the professional development was a an important factor in the decision of leaving. But regarding what would motivate them to return, 44 percent say they would like to help Romanian patients, 46 percent would return in order to be close to their families, over 56 percent would return if they found a stable and well-paid job; they expect net salaries between RON 6,000-15,000/month,” says Catrinel Hagivreta, founder and CEO MEDIjobs Romania.

MEDIjobs has already helped some of the doctors to return to Romania two months ago, finding the desired jobs in different cities from Romania for salaries between RON 6,000-9,000 and even RON 28,000 in Constanta.

According to the statistics of Doctors’ College from Romania, between 2010-2016 over 16,000 doctors and medical specialists requested certificates of well medical practice to use them outside Romania.

According the analysis made by MEDIjobs, there are three myths related to the Romanian doctors established din foreign countries.

„A myth is that are not enough doctors in Romania. Actually, according to our centralized data, the problem is not that there is not a deficit of doctors in the university centers cities from Romania, but in the small areas, so it’s actually a distribution issue. The second myth is that there are less doctors because less and less young people want to study medicine. The reality is that Romania is in the top countries with the highest graduates of medicine, the issue is more about demographics, the Romanian population is getting older and there is a higher need for medical assistance. The last myth is that if we increase the number of medicine students, we will solve the deficit issue. Actually, the issue is more in the residential programs, more than a half of residents are considering leaving the country due to the programs that don’t make them develop,” says Hagivreta.

Through the MEDIreturn program, doctors and medical assistants who want to return in Romania will have the free support in finding a job. The program is also dedicated to the specialists who want to return to have their own office or clinic. With the help of Repatriot, the applicants can benefit from an entrepreneurial education and consultancy for accessing finance funds.
