Speaking from Malta, where he is attending an informal summit alongside European leaders, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that the country’s economic situation is still very good. Previously, he stated he was going to address Parliament on Tuesday, February 7.

Iohannis said he was “very worried” by what happens in Romania. “The situation in Romania is very complicated. But we have hundred thousands Romanians on the streets. I trust them. I believe in Romania. Ultimately, we must find a good solution. The rule of law, European values, must prevail,” Iohannis said.

As to the effect of the political crisis on the economic climate, Iohannis said that investors “do not feel threatened. “The economic situation is still very good and I believe it will stay like this,” Iohannis said.

The Romanian president also stressed the importance of the summit. “The expectations are high. We must find a good path for Europe and a good path towards the Rome summit,” Iohannis told journalists upon his arrival at the reunion of the European Council in La Valetta.

Iohannis also said he requested to address the Romanian Parliament a message on the modifications brought by the Government to criminal legislation, as well as the mass protests it triggered. The main topic on the agenda of the summit is migration. The summit also serves to prepare the forthcoming EU summit in Rome.
