National Office of Vineyard and Wine Products (ONVPV) announces a new edition of International Wine Contest Bucharest (IWCB), that will take place between 26th-29th of May in Focsani, Vrancea county. With the 2016 edition , IWCB becomes the first contest in the world under the aegis of International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) that no longer takes charges for judging the wines submitted .

In 2015, 27 wine producing countries participated at IWCB, while samples coming from international manufacturers represented 56% of total enrolments. In 2016, IWCB organizers are optimistic, expecting the competition will total  more than 1.400 samples, up with 55 percent comparing to the precedent year.

“Wine is a overwhelming resource. From an economical and identity point of view. Let’s see it from this perspective,” said Catalin Paduraru, CEO IWCB . “IWCB is, undoubtedly, an important gain for the entire community of those who work with wine, but also for the large public. Moreover, due to the annual growth rate of approximately 40 percent, we are confident that IWCB will become one of the most important competitions in the world, attracting thus attention to our country,” adds Catalin Paduraru.

Starting this year, IWCB becomes a itinerant contest, moving every edition in another vineyard region, and this year will be held in Focsani, in the middle of the largest Romanian vineyard area – Vrancea, enabling jurors and foreign journalists to acknowledge this important wine region of Romania.

To ensure compliance and quality of the products entered in the competition, the organizers are collaborating with the Laboratory for Wine Quality and Hygiene from Calugareasca Valley- Focsani branch. By analysing samples before and after the competition by this institution, IWCB provides an additional guarantee on the relevance of the results obtained after judging the wine.

IWCB 2016 will have 7 judging committees, each being composed of three foreign jurors and two Romanian jurors. The jurors from abroad are specialists from countries with mature markets or increasing ones, such as: USA, Germany, UK, Poland , France , Moldova, Hungary, Australia, Slovenia, Greece, Brazil, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Spain, Russia, Serbia, Croatia. Furthermore, three Masters of Wine and four WSET Diploma holders ( Level 4 )  responded to IWCB invitation to be part of the judging panel and will add their expertise and performance to the evaluation activities of the samples submitted in the contest.

IWCB 2016 edition will also be privileged by the presence of an official representative of the International Federation of Journalists and Writers of Wine (FIJEV) being part of the jury and monitoring of  VINOFED (Federation of Great International Wine Competitions).

This year, besides traditional distinctions – Great Gold Medal , Gold Medal and Silver Medal – Awards were created to reward those involved in this field: producers, winemakers, press, communicators, partners.

IWCB is the most important international wine competition in Eastern Europe, organized at the ONVPV initiative by ASER Wineconsulting, in partnership with  Authorized Tasters Association in Romania (ADAR), under the patronage of OIV, being the thirteenth edition acknowledged by this intergovernmental forum which brings together 45 countries in the world, producing and consuming wine.
