INS: Romania’s gas imports up by 629 pct in 2016

The gas imports went up by 629 percent in 2016, compared with 2015, reaching to 1.185 million tones oil equivalent, shows the data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Meanwhile, the gas production went down in 2016 by 12.5 percent, amounting to 7.487 million tones oil equivalent.

In November, the president of National Authority of Energy Regulation (ANRE), Niculae Havrilet, said that Romania might import 40 percent of the gas consumed this winter, due to the gas prices on the international markets that will be even with RON 20/ MWh below the domestic gas prices..

He reminded that the priced paid by population was fronzen at RON 60/MWh until April 2017, as a result of the Government decision approved last summer.
