Disinfectants maker Hexi Pharma, which had sold diluted substances to public hospitals in Romania, was not under any special investigation by the domestic intelligence service SRI, according to the Parliament committee that oversees the activity of the secret service.
“Hexi Pharma or its representatives were not on their own a case of national security. In the case of Hexi Pharma and Dan Condrea (the head of the company – e.n.), the conditions for fulfilling such a request from the legal perspective were not met, considering that such a request would have generated the temporary restriction of some fundamental rights and liberties,” said the committee in a statement.
The SRI is working on several cases regarding the risk of infections in hospitals and some information about Hexi Pharma came up during the special operations, according to the committee.
The same committee had previously stated that the SRI had submitted four notes about the Romanian company to decision-makers between 2011 and 2016.
The head of Hexi Pharma died in a car crash last week. The company has stopped its operations and is subject to an investigation by prosecutors.
