Green cars sales double in Romania in the first five months

The sales of green cars have doubled in Romania in the first five months of the year compared with the same period of 2016, to 717 new units, according to the statistics of the Association of Car Producers and Importers (APIA).

According to APIA, during January-May, the share of green cars in the total sales was 1.6 percent in Romania compared with the same period of 2016 and the electric cars sale doubles, while hybrid cars sale increased by 194.6 percent.

At the same time, according to the source, in May there were 169 electric and hybrid cars sold, a growth of 19.85 percent compared with the previous month.

Based on sales of electric cars, Mercedes Benz came first with 19 units, followed by BMW (16), Audi (8), Volkswagen and Volvo (each 4 units), Porsche (3) and Renault (1).

Also, most of the hybrid cars sold in Romania, in January-May were registered by Toyota (597 units), followed by Lexus (52), Kia (3) and land Rover (2).

The official statistics show that in 2016, the number of new electric and hybrid cars in Romania stood at 1,183 units, a growth by 138 percent compared with 2015. Overall, 167 units are 100 percent electric cars.

The Environment Ministry said that staring May 18, individuals and companies can access the stimulation programs of auto national park renewal – “Rabla Clasic” and “Rabla Plus”.
