In 2015, Germany remained Romania’s main trading partner, with EUR 23.3 billion in total volume of trade exchanged between the two countries, an increase of 9.3 percent from 2014, according to data from the Romanian National Institute of Statistics cited by the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania).

The imports from Germany added up to EUR 12.5 billion (11.3 percent more than in 2014), and exports to EUR 10.8 billion (6.8 percent more than in 2014). The most important groups of products exchanged between Romania and Germany were vehicles and machinery, transportation means and materials, and base metals.

Last year, Romania’s trade exchanges added up to EUR 117.5 billion, increasing by 1.9 percent from 2014.

For 2016, “a positive evolution of Romanian-German economic relations and also of German investments in Romania” is expected by AHK Romania. Furthermore, AHK Romania added that developing the professional education system after the dual model remains one of their concerns, “with the purpose of ensuring qualified personnel in Romania.”

AHK Romania was founded in 2002 and currently has a total of around 530 member companies. It is the largest bilateral chamber of commerce in Romania.
