Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu met with US Ambassador Hans Klemm on Friday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It was a talk which, from my point of view, started from a very clear point, namely that Romania is a sovereign state, an allied state of the United States of America and a state partner of the US,” the Romanian Foreign Minister said after the meeting.

According to Melescanu, during the meeting he assured the US diplomat that he understands very well direct messages and that “it is not normal that, when there are certain topics of interest for bilateral relations they are brought to our attention through the press.” Melescau stressed the importance of the partnership of the bilateral partnership between Romania and the US.

From our point of view, of the current government, the continuation and development of the strategic partnership with the US is one of the priorities that we took on and will do everything in our power to develop this partnership, to expand, as this is the most important partner we have atan international level,” the Romanian Foreign Minister said.

According to a press release of Embassy of the United States in Bucharest, the US ambassador congratulated Minister Melescanu on his appointment, “and noted the United States’ commitment to strengthening our strategic partnership, a partnership based on shared values and the common goals of promoting regional security, economic prosperity and the rule of law”.

The United States Embassy values its ongoing dialogue with the Government and other institutions of the Romanian state, as well as with the Romanian public on matters of mutual concern, the release reads.
