Flights to Romania for Easter up by 31 pct in 2018

The number of plane tickets to Romania for Easter increased by 31 percent in 2018 year-on-year, a report by Vola.ro reads. 

According to the report, many of the Romanians living abroad, such as students and Romanians working abroad come back to Romania to celebrate Easter choose to travel by plane rather than cars or buses.

The number of plane tickets having Romania as an outbound destination also increased by 3 percent.

In Romania, the most popular destinations are Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara and Cluj, while abroad the most popular countries are Italy, UK, Spain and Germany.

When it comes to purchases of flights to family and friends, the Vola.ro survey shows that 68 percent of tickets are bought for one person and 22 percent of them for two people.

For Easter, the average cost of a plane ticket is EUR 143.46.

City breaks are preferred for Easter 

For Easter, Romanians prefer city breaks or destinations that have large communities of Orthodox Christians, so they can attend the Easter mass. Romanians prefer European destination due to short flights and accessible tariffs.

The most popular city break destinations are Rome, Milan, Berlin and Barcelona, for which tourists paid on average between EUR 120 and 250 per person for a holiday that includes 3 nights of accommodation at 3 and 4 star hotels, including flights. 69 percent of this type of packages are bought for couples or groups of minimum 2 people.
