The price of energy for universal consumers will increase by 13 percent during peak hours from January 1, according to information published on Tuesday by OPCOM (Romanian Electricity and Gas Market Operator).

Auctions for the first quarter of 2018 on the Centralized Market for Universal Service (PCSU) have ended on Tuesday, and OPCOM published the closing prices, according to Agerpres.

For the energy delivered continuously, between 1 am – 12 am, the price will reach RON 245/MWh, which is 6.5 percent higher than the fourth quarter of this year.

The price for the 8 am – 12 am interval will be RON 272/MWh, 7 percent higher, and for peak hours  (6 pm – 12 am), the price will reach RON 302/MWh, which will involve a 13 percent increase from the previous quarter.

From January 1, the energy market will be completely liberalized, and those consumers who until now relied on a regulated scheme will now receive energy priced at the level of closing prices of PCSU auctions.
