PSD president Liviu Dragnea said on Monday that the party’s leadership has not and will not take any measure that would lead to the nationalisation or dismantling of the private pension fund (Pillar II).
Dragnea publicly dismissed this information, citing an article of the Criminal Code that refers to the communication of false information.
“This kind of information, which is a hundred percent false, can truly destabilise Romania from a social and economic point of view and can affect national security. I don’t know what the chief of the Prognosis Commission said. Governing is done based on a programme approved by the Parliament, which is public. Regarding pension pillar II, we continue to be committed to our objectives and the first objective is that in the following period the Labour Ministry and other institutions will complete a rigorous, exhaustive analysis of all financial data, in order to present the information regarding the pension levels for Romanians who are enrolled only in pillar I and for those who are enrolled in both pillar I and II. The second objective is that after they’ve been informed, each Romanian citizen to opt for the type of pension savings they prefer,” said Liviu Dragnea in a press conference.
He said that there is no decision in the government or in PSD that would lead to the nationalisation or dismantling of pillar II.
“Pillar II is not being nationalised and it is not being replaced (…) There may be ideas, opinions, it is each to their own. The governing programme was voted publicly by citizens, by the Parliament, and it will be implemented,” said the PSD leader.
