Laura Codruta Kovesi, the head of the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA), criticizes the emergency ordinance of the Government through which the Criminal Code was changed, saying that it’s a bill with dedication, through which the anti-corruption fight will lack the substance.

„From our perspective, it brings extremely severe changes and the anti-corruption fight will lack the substance if it will be applied. It’s very had to explain the emergency. We have over 440 articles in the Criminal Code, and the ordinance changes four articles. The decisions of the Constitutional Court have no connection with the changes regarding punishment and the favour of the perpetrator. It’s outrageous that other points of view from institutions were asked, observations were sent, but they were not taken into account. Basically, every year starting today is a high risk for the justice system. Every morning we can wake up with a change. We don’t have a predictability,” said Kovesi.

„It’s a dedicated ordinance because basically through these previsions of the ordinance aimt to exonerate of responsibility all the clerks of high and medium status,”  added Kovesi.

She reminds also that DNA has over 2,000 abuse in office files to be investigated and those with prejudices less than RON 200,000 will be closed.
