Over the next three years, there will be an approximately 25 percent growth of telecom services in rural areas.
The economic crisis stopped the growth rate penetration in rural areas this year. The cause for this stagnation are the economic crisis, the delay in significant investments in infrastructure and production, layoffs in the public system, as well as the decrease in revenues of the non-active population, revenues such as child allocations, pensions, and social aid.
“The current economic context triggers maintains, if not grows, the gap between the urban and rural areas. At this moment, the internet penetration rate is approximately 20 percent in the rural areas and more than 60 percent in the urban areas, which makes internet services an important growth engine for us over the next years,” says Dinu Malacopol, CEO of Digital Cable Systems.
This year and the next, the internet penetration in rural areas will not increase significantly but there will be interesting opportunities in acquisitions, says Malacopol.
