The tips legalization is an objective that should be fulfilled in the next period, while the Romanian hotels industry needs a legal framework to regulate the seasonal work, as well as the promotion of the job in this industry, said this Wednesday Dragos Petrescu, the president of Romanian Hotels and Restaurants Trade Union (HORA).

“The education in restaurants industry can be a very good pillar in the attraction and maintenance of human resources. Among our medium and long-term objectives is the tips legalization.  In Romania, today you can’t pay tips by card, for example. A topic that we confront more and more seriously with. In Israel for example, you can pay by card the tips. Yesterday was voted in the Deputies Chamber a draft on the legalization of seasonal work in hotels and restaurants. We also want to change the opinion that the work in hotels industry is temporary, to have a culture in which we enter the hotels industry at youth and we retire as a respectable person,” said Petrescu.

He added that the lack of a permanent change in the industry easily leads to the entry in “out of business” area.

“If you don’t come up with something new, a change, you easily enter the “out of business” area, “ said Petrescu.

The data of HORA shows that Romanian has a turnover of EUR 3.6 billion in hotels industry and operate 26,000 restaurants at national level, out of which 3,670 in Bucharest.
