Catania, Bologna and Lisbon are the new destination preferred by Romanians for winter holidays

According to a Vola.ro analysis, Romanians chose well-known European destinations to spend these winter holidays, such as London and Rome, but also  new destinations, such as Lisbon, Catania- Sicily and Bologna. Also were chosen the Romanian destinations, such as Timisoara, Cluj and Iasi.

London is the most popular destination among Romanians for Christmas, as the statistics of Vola.ro shows that over 10 percent of the tickets issued by Vola.ro during Christmas period have the London destination. For the New Year’s Eve the most popular is Rome.

In the top destination chosen by Romanians are also Brussels, Milan and Madrid.

According to Vola.ro analysis, 56 percent of the flight bookings for Christmas are for one person, which shows that Romanians choose to travel to the dear ones. For the New Year’s eve Romanians choose to travel in couple, as 42 percent of the flight bookings are for two persons.

The exotic destinations registered an increase by 25 percent compared with the overall bookings from the last year. The Romanians’ preferences are especially for beach destinations such as Thailand or Maldive.

The first flight bookings for these holidays were made since March. The first booking for this Christmas comprised two flight tickets for Bucharest- Rome (round trip), for EUR 75.

Also in March was made the first booking for the New Year’s Eve: 2 flight tickets for Bucharest-Maldive (round trip) for EUR 1,500.

The first city break booked for Christmas was acquired in March, with final destination in Rome, for two persons, with flight and 2 night accommodation EUR 330. The first city break for the New Year’s Eve was acquired in May with destination to Larnaca. The  package included 3 night accommodation and the flight ticket  for two persons with the value of EUR 270.

“We observed more and more clients that adapted their habits to get the best prices even for peak periods, such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve. In some cases, it means booking the tickets even with 6 months in advance,” said  Matei Psatta, head of Marketing Vola.ro.
