The Bucharest City Hall has announced that it will withdraw a project that aimed to introduce a new rulebook for taxi transport in the city, including a ban on cab-hailing apps like Clever Taxi or Star Taxi.

The statement by the City Hall says that the Transport Ministry is working on changing the legislation for taxis, and that “the General Mayor has decided to postpone debate on this project, until the specialised legislation is finalised”, so that the city’s project will be in line with the new legislation.

At the same time, Mayor Gabriela Firea says that the City Hall is dealing with a smear campaign and that it has “zero tolerance for blackmail”.

The project for the new taxi services rulebook has been challenged by the opposition, who didn’t agree with the ban on taxi apps.

Over the last few days, Clever Taxi has urged people to sign an online petition to stop the City Hall from banning such apps.
