Readers in Brasov are bidding to enter the Guinness Book of Records by creating the largest human chain in the world on 22 April, one day before the World Book and Copyright Day.
The human chain will start at the city’s Modarom building and will stretch over the Republicii Street ending on Council Square. The participants will bring along books they will read from and exchange with other readers.
In order to enter the Book of Records, the participants must read out loud a text handed by the organisers, which will make reference to the Centenary.
“We aim to gather together 5,000 people and we believe we will be able to do so. The reactions have been more than welcoming. We received signs that schools in Bacau, Iasi or Fagaras will come to participate in our event with entire classrooms. There are people who said they will come on bike, from all over the country. We have signs from participants to Moldova, Bucharest and Italy. We want to gather not only books, but increasingly more experiences, particularly because a library is truly valuable when it is read.
Brasov’s bid was accepted by the Guinness Book of Records in the Most people in a reading relay category and the current record stands at 3,071.
