The average monthly household income reached RON 2,231 (approximately EUR 530) in the third quarter of 2010, dropping by 4.5 against the previous one, according to data released on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). Average monthly expenses amounted to RON 2,022, representing 90.6 percent of incomes.
The per capita monthly income was RON 770 while expenses reached RON 698, according to the same source. 72.4 percent of the total average expenses were related to consumption costs followed by taxes (15.2 percent). Investment expenses represented only 2.4 percent.
There were significant differences among households from urban areas and those in rural areas. The average monthly income of an urban household was 32.3 percent higher than that of one from the a rural area. Also, in urban areas wages were the main source of income (61.3 percent) while in the countryside agriculture related incomes provided the largest share in the households’ budgets (34.4 percent).
