National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) head Catalin Marinescu stepped down in order to take on a position in the same field with an international institution, representatives of the institution announced.
Catalin Marinescu started working in the communications sector in 1990, for communication services providers, such as Romtelecom, where he spent 15 years, as well as for public institutions.
Between 2005 and 2007, he was the president of the General Inspectorate for Communications and Information Technology, the body regulating the radio-electric bandwidth, supervised and provided technical control in radio communications and the management of e-governing projects, which later merged with the National Authority of Communications Regulation, creating ANCOM in 2009.
Marinescu also served as administrator of IT hub of the General Council of Bucharest Municipality.
Catalin Marinescu is a telecommunications engineer, who graduated from the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications with the Politehnica University of Bucharest. He obtained a Master’s degree from Manchester University.
At an international level, he was a president and vice-president of several international bodies such as the European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP), Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications (BEREC) and more.
