American e-commerce leader Amazon has announced that it will open a development centre in Bucharest on May 9, in the Globalworth Campus, located in the northern part of the Romanian capital.
Amazon has also started a recruitment campaign for the new centre. It aims to find 20 new employees to start with, for roles from software engineers to translators, but the long-term goal is the hiring of over 1,000 people.
The Bucharest team will work on the development of operating systems, virtualization, cloud computing and network technologies behind Amazon Web Services, key elements of the technical foundation of Amazon.
The company has already invested over EUR 40 million in Romania, and has recruited 600 employees, mainly for the office in Iasi. Amazon.com was launched in 1995 and has been present on the Romanian market for 12 years.
