As the good weather is on the corner, a walk in the nature, a hike or a climb can be the choice for a family weekend escape. A good choice is Ramet Gorges, which is a protected area of national interest, a mixed natural reservation. It is situated in the East of Trascau mountains (Apuseni), in Alba county, not far away from Ramet monastery.

The natural reservation is very little transformed by humans and this allowed it to keep it to the basics . Recently, a few modern chalets were constructed near the river, with rocking chairs and barbecue spot.

Rimetea is a locality attested in 1257, with different periods during its history. Rimetea has been an important manufacturing and mining center, inhabited in the past by a mixed population of  Saxons and Szekely people.

Starting 1996, Rimetea locality has been included in a project of patrimony conservation. As a result, more inhabitants decided to rehabilitate the old houses, offering a simple, fairy tale landscape, without too much modern urban elements.  In the last years, the locality has developed very much from touristic point of view, becoming an important objective both for the Romanian tourists, as well as for the foreign tourists.

In 1999, the locality has been awarded with the prize “Nostra Europe of the European Commission” and in 2000 the National Office of Historical Monuments named Rimetea protected architectural and urban area.

At approximately 50 km of Rimetea can be found Ramet Gorges, spread of 150 hectares, which is a trek of medium difficulty level and it’s recommended for all ages categories, placed between two chalky rocks, a “tight canyon”. Thus it requires attention, but reveals an impressive view, creating the impression of a fairy tale travel, beneath stone arches and trees arch. There are parcels that can be crossed through water or with the help of handholds and metallic stairs in the rocks (mini via ferrata). You can find slopes have a V-shaped profile, with numerous towers, poles, and grottoes. It’s recommended to spend at least a weekend here to cover all the attractions offered by the area.
