All cabs, regardless of the company that operates them, will be allowed to access the Henri Coanda international airport area, starting November 15 of this year, provided that they hold all necessary authorizations from authorities in Bucharest and the Ilfov county. The announcement was made by the operator of the Henri Coanda airport, the National Airports Company Bucharest.
The access of the cabs in the waiting areas, and the areas for picking up clients will be allowed only after all permits are acquired.
Cab transport from the airport had previously been allowed only to one company, designated through a bid. Transport fees to the airport are charged differently from regular fees. Cab companies charge a higher fee once the cab has passed the Bucharest city belt on the way to the airport.
Before going insolvent, Fly Taxi held the monpoly on the cab transport from the airport to downtown of Bucharest. The company was charging tarrifs of almost RON3 per kilometer, compared to RON 1.4, which is the average tarrif charged by most cab companies.
