According to a poll by iSense Solutions, over half of Romanians living in cities have heard about crypto currencies and 17 are planning to buy crypto currency in the next 12 months.
57 percent of Romanians living in urban areas have heard of crypto currencies, most popular being Bitcoin (54 percent), Bitcoin Cash (19 percent), Ethereum (11 percent), Litecoin (10 percent) and Ethereum Classic (7 percent).
A total of 17 percent of Romanians living in cities say they are planning to buy crypto currencies in the next 12 months, and 30 percent believe that crypto coins are the currency of the future.
“The fast development of the digital environment is pushing the limits in almost every field, that is why it is not a surprise that a payment instrument that doesn’t know geographical borders is becoming increasingly popular. Our study confirms that Romanians have started to become familiar with the term of crypto currencies, want to align themselves with the new trends and to take advantage of the opportunities generated by the new technologies,” Traian Nastase, managing partner iSense Solutions said.
“The crypto currencies remain a sensitive topic given the vey low degree of regulation of the market and of the many warnings at a global level. That is why, any communication in this direction must be based on significant efforts to correctly educate and inform the consumers,” Nastase said.
8 percent of respondents have already bought crypto coins
Only 8 percent of Romanian internet users living in urban areas have bought crypto coins in the past 12 months. Bitcoin is the most popular crypto currency – 7 percent of Romanians in the urban areas have bought Bitcoin in the past year and 14 percent are planning to buy one in the upcoming 12 months. One percent want to buy Ethereum and 2 percent wan to buy Ethereum Classic, Bitcoin Cash or Litecoin.
In what regards the use of crypto currency, 35 percent of Romanians who have heard of them trust them, while 44 percent would like to pay using this type of coins. Out of all age groups, people over 40 years of age are positive regarding crypto coins. Namely, 61 percent of young people that are familiarised with the term believe that crypto currency represents the future, trust them and 50 percent would like to use them to make payments.
A total of 22 percent of those aged below 40 and living in urban areas are planning to buy crypto currencies in the upcoming 12 months.
The poll was conducted online by iSense Solutions on a representative batch of 500 respondents in urban areas, members of the ResearchRomania.ro.
