Average monthly labor cost in Romania up 14.7 pct to RON 4,008 in 2017

The average gross monthly earnings per total economy in 2017 of RON 3,223 a month was 14.7 percent higher than the one in 2016, while the average net monthly salary in the economy of RON 2,338 a month registered an increase of 14.3 percent compared to the previous year. The average monthly labor cost was in the year 2017 of RON 4,008 a month /employee, an increase by 14.7 percent over the previous year.

The average number of employees in 2017 was 4,945.9 thousand persons, an increase by 186,500 compared to the previous year.  The number of employees at 31 December 2017 was 5,362,300 persons, higher by 138,600 compared to the end of the previous year.

The highest average monthly earnings net, higher than average national economy, were made in 2017 in information and communications (double), financial intermediation and insurance (84.3 percent), public administration (64.3 percent), mining and quarrying (56.8 percent), production and the provision of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (47 percent), activities professional, scientific and technical (33.9 percent), health and social care (14.3 percent), respectively education (2.1 percent)

The average monthly cost

The average monthly labor cost was in the year 2017 of RON 4,008/employee, increasing by 14.7 percent over the previous year. Compared to the average for the economy, the average cost monthly was significantly higher in activities: information and communications (89.5 percent), industry mining, respectively financial intermediation and insurance (86 percent each), production and supply electricity and heat, gas, hot water and heat air conditioning (49.5 percent), public administration (35.1 percent), professional, scientific and professional activities technical (32.7 percent), health and social assistance (26.1 percent).

The most important average cost monthly below the average in the economy were registered in hotel and business activities restaurants (-40.1 percent), other service activities (-33.9 percent), construction (-27.4 percent), agriculture, forestry and fishing activities, respectively administrative services and service activities support (-20.4 percent each).
