Orange Money signed a strategic partnership with Visa, which aims to redefine how people make payments and pave the way for innovative digital financial solutions in Romania. Thanks to these solutions, Orange Money customers will be able to choose the most convenient and handy way of payment anywhere in the world.

Through this partnership, Orange Money becomes a Visa Master Member in Romania. Orange Money is a mobile financial service that gives customers access to a digital account and allows them, via an IBAN code attached to their account, to make payments to any other customer who has an account in Romania and to make instant payments to other Orange Money users. The platform also offers the option to pay bills to over 70 utilities providers. In addition, it allows customers to save their cards into their digital account, recharge PrePay cards and pay invoices for Orange Romania’s services.

Orange Romania is the leader of the mobile telecommunications market, with a strategy focused on providing easy access to converged fixed – mobile services for over 10,900,000 customers. Thus, Orange Money is an important pillar of this strategy by which Orange aims to respond to its customers’ financial needs in an efficient way. Orange Money has grown rapidly in Romania with over 120,000 customers in the two years since its launch.

“Mobile payments and contactless technology in particular have expanded rapidly in Romania in recent years. In this context, the partnership with Visa is a natural step following the expansion and diversification of the services we offer through Orange Money. The Orange customer wants simplicity in services whether we are talking about how they choose to communicate or manage their money, and the mobile phone quickly becomes the preferred solution for these needs. We are confident that we can make a significant contribution to the development of mobile digital financial services on the Romanian market,” says Haris Hanif, CEO of Orange Money Romania.

“We are pleased to announce a long-term strategic partnership with Orange, the largest mobile phone operator in Romania and the first to launch Visa cards as well as mobile payments through Orange Money. Payments via mobile devices are secured with Visa’s Token Technology, which provides the highest standard for card data protection. The landscape of electronic payments is changing rapidly, and the partnership with Orange Money is further proof of Visa’s commitment to supporting fintechs and non-traditional players working to develop innovative solutions in open banking. The smartphone becomes the main interface with consumers. Given that 90 percent of POS terminals allow contactless payments, I am confident that the new mobile payment solutions launched with Orange will be attractive to Romanian consumers,” said Catalin Cretu, general manager pentru Romania, Croatia, Malta and Slovenia at Visa.
