Tech giant Apple has announced that it would invest USD 1 billion in a new campus in Austin, Texas, less than one mile from its existing facilities, which will house jobs in engineering, R&D, operations, finance, sales and customer support, according to CNBC.
The new campus will initially accommodate 5,000 employees, but its full capacity will reach 15,000 staff.
The company also announced plans to open new sites and add over 1,000 employees in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City over the next three years, and it will also expand operations in Pittsburgh, New York, Boulder, Boston and Portland.
Apple says it has added 6,000 jobs to its US workforce in 2018 and that it is planning to add 20,000 more jobs across the US by 2023.
Its plans include a USD 10 billion investment in US data centres over the next five years.
