The pandemic forced companies and employees to change in many ways. Apart from working from home, companies had to make sure that employees understand the measures leaders take and do not feel left out, as Madalina Racovitan, Head of People Services at KPMG, said at Business Review’s Working Romania event.

”Obviously, things have changed during this period. We were among the first to decide to send people home. I was impressed by the adaptability of my colleagues, who quickly embraced this idea. We quickly adjusted things so that in a few days I was already in a normal working situation. What we have done well is communication inside the organization, on several levels. We stayed close to people, understood them as they go through many challenges, and the better we communicate, the easier we will get through this period,” said Racovitan.

”Communication has two main levels. One is the organizational communication, in which leaders manage to keep their employees up to date with what is happening in the company during this period. What is the impact on the business, what are the main projects to follow and especially what are the measures that organizations take and which often have an impact on employees.”

What everybody can see now is that transparency has become very important in any organization, especially when working remotely.

”At KPMG we have an application that helps us support continuous communication, KPMG QuercusApp Performance, a cloud based application that supports the process of continuous feedback and performance management, in a flexible and easy to intuitive way. It is the app that helps in the process of digitizing performance management,” says Racovita.

The app also supports a process in which goals are dynamic due to the context and then employees and organizations need to be able to adjust their individual and organizational goals. ”What we offer to the business environment is the free use of the application for the next two months.”

”The scenario I believe in is that we will return with small steps to the office, in stages. We, at KPMG, are in business as usual in the relationship with customers. The future normalcy will be different from two months ago, but we must remain open-minded to new things,” concludes Madalina Racovita.
