The Romanian telecom watchdog ANCOM announced it has handed in the licenses for the use of the radio spectrum to representatives of companies Cosmote Romania, Orange Romania, RCS&RDS, Vodafone Romania and 2K Telecom.
These five companies won spectrum in the bandwidth 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz which they can use between 2014- 2029.
Orange Romania won 2 blocks in the 800 MHz, 2 blocks in 900 MHz, 4 blocks in 1800 MHz and 4 blocks in 2600 MHz, valid for the timeframe 2014-2029. The company also won short term licenses- 5 blocks in the 900 MHz bandwidth and 3 blocks in 1800 MHz bandwidth, valid between January 1, 2013 and April 5, 2014.
Vodafone Romania won 2 blocks in the 800 MHz, 2 blocks in 900 MHz, 6 blocks in 1800 MHz and 1 block of 15 MHz in the 2600 MHz frequency, valid during the timeframe 2014- 2029. The company also won short-term licenses- 5 blocks in the 900 MHz, 3 blocks in the 1800 MHz, valid between January 1, 2013 and April 5, 2014.
Cosmote Romania acquired 1 block in 800 Mhz, 2 blocks in 900 Mhz, 5 blocks in 1800 Mhz and 2 blocks in 2600 Mhz, valid for the timeframe 2014-2029.
RCS&RDS gained access to 900 MHz after winning 1 block in this frequency, valid for the period between 2014 and 2029.
2K Telecom acquired 2 blocks of 15 MHz each in the 2600 MHz frequency, valid for the timeframe 2014- 2029.
Among the conditions they must fulfill include covering 98 percent of the Romanian population with voice services in the case of operators that won spectrum in the 800 MHz or 900 MHz. 2K Telecom, that won spectrum in the 2600 MHz, is under the obligation to cover 30 percent of the population.
Cosmote, RCS&RDS and 2K Telecom are under the obligation to host virtual mobile operators and practice reasonable tariffs in report with the supplied services.
