Coffee chain Starbucks announced it was expanding with several new locations throughout Bucharest and Romania. One coffee shop will be located in the historical center of Bucharest, in the Hanul lui Manuc inn. Another location will open in Iasi.

Within the first three months of next year, the company plans to open new locations in the Strip Mall Floreasca, Calea Victoriei and Upground Pipera areas. The company’s expansion plans also include the expansion of the existing locations in SUN Plaza in Bucharest and in Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara.

At the same time, low potential locations such as America House and Promenada will be closed, as was the AFI Palace Cotroceni one.

This year the company opened a 200 sqm coffee shop in Novo Park. It was its 10th outlet in Romania. The coffee shop is located on the ground floor of the D building in Novo Park, with direct access from Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard.

Starbucks entered the local market in 2007, with the opening of its first location in Plaza Romania. It currently owns ten locations country wide: seven in Bucharest and three in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Constanta. The company entered the market through a joint-venture with Greek company Marinopoulos. At the beginning of this year the shareholding changed and the business is run by several entrepreneurs and the parent company.

The US company started operating in 1971 in Seattle and it currently has over 20,000 locations worldwide.
