Romtelecom has introduced the first 100G links based on IP technology from Cisco and DWDM ADVA.
The process to improve the performance of Romtelecom’s IP Core network started in 2013 and will be finished in 2015.
Three of the most important knots of the Romtelecom national network will be connected with the help of the 100G links.
The Cisco technology will be used for the IP/MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) network while the DWDM rechnology supplied by ADVA for the data transport network.
“We own the most extended national network and we are making permanent efforts to exploit its capabilities to the benefit of our clients. We are now implementing an innovative solution to grow the capacity of the data network, boosting its availability and resilience,” according to Bob Konstantinidis (in picture), executive director for operations and technology Romtelecom and Cosmote Romania.
This is part of a more ample project to prepare the Romtelecom infrastructure for the transition to All IP technology, which will be completed at the end of 2018.
The new infrastructure will be able to sustain the explosive growth of IP traffic due to the growing number of devices, applications and next generation services such as video applications and cloud services on the internet.
The network infrastructure is based on two IP platforms offered by Cisco: Cisco ASR9000 and Cisco CRS-3, which are capable of offering the delivery of an extended range of next gen services at high speeds such as mobile and cloud services.
