Dan Sova, the minister of transport, told BR the motorway linking Sibiu and Nadlac will be finished in the fourth quarter of 2015, after Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Friday the motorway will be completed some time next year, without mentioning a clear deadline.
The project, with a length of around 350 kilometers including bypasses, is part of EU’s trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Priority Axis No7, which aims to link Nadlac to Constanta, including Bucharest. According to media reports, some 172 kilometers have been opened over the course of the last two years in the Sibiu-Nadlac motorway project.
“Works will be completed in October – December 2015, depending on how the construction works are evolving. The Nadlac-Arad segment 1 (22.1 km) and Nadlac-Arad segment 2 (16.7 km) need to be finished, the Timisoara-Lugoj segment 2 (26 km) has been started, the Lugos-Deva segments 2,3,4 (70 km) and to complete the Orastie-Sibiu segment 3 (22 km) this year,” explained Sova.
The first segment of the Timisoara-Lugoj motorway has been opened in October 2012, while the first segment of the Lugoj-Deva segment was opened in December 2013. The first, second, and fourth segments of the Orastie-Sibiu motorway were finished in the same month.
