Romania’s energy minister named ACER head

The Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) has appointed on Wednesday Razvan Nicolescu, the energy minister, as chair of the administrative board. He was the board’s vice-chair between 2010 and 2014.

Nicolescu was designated as member of the administrative board by the Council of the European Union in December 2009.

Piotr Wozniak, the former Polish economy minister, was named vice-chair of ACER’s administrative board.

Nicolescu commented upon his appointment that the ACER has a crucial role in the completion of the internal market.

He has graduated from the Power Engineering Faculty of the Politehnica University in Bucharest. He attended an MBA program of Solvay Business School between 2006 and 2008.

Nicolescu has held various positions in the energy sector, including that of director at oil major Petrom. He was also Romania’s representative to the EU on energy matters.
