The turnover in the domestic car sector could expand by 13 to 15 percent, after reaching EUR 13.27 billion in 2012, said on Thursday Gheorghe Druta, technical counselor at the Automobile Manufacturers Association in Romania (ACAROM), quoted by Agepres newswire.

The counselor said that Dacia, controlled by French car market Renault, increased its output by 16.7 percent to 181.295 cars in the first six months of this year. Ford made 43,312 BMax models in the same period. The US-based car maker started last year production in Craiova, making 30,591 cars.

According to Druta, only 20.908 of the cars made by Dacia and Ford were sold locally last year, out of a total of 87,505 cars.

In the first six months of the year, Dacia and Ford exported 141,432 and 43,312 cars, respectively.
