Romanians buy over 60 million eggs for Easter worth some EUR 24 mln

Egg sales go up by 60 percent before Easter in Romania compared to a regular month, Ilie Van, the president of the National Union of Poultry Farmers told the Mediafax newswire.

“If usually approximately 100 million – 110 million eggs are sold in Romania in a month, during the two weeks before Easter, sales will increase by more than 60 million eggs,” he said. Additional sales are estimated to amount to more than EUR 24 million.

Farmers sell the eggs with about RON 0.18 but the shelf price in retail networks reach RON 0.4 – RON 0.5.
