Romanians are more satisfied with their living standards

The perception on the living standards continued to improve in 2014 due to the decrease in percentage of those who believe they have lived worse than the previous year and to the growing percentage of those who appreciate the way they lived.

According to the latest Millward Brown study, expectations regarding this year are higher than those with which was greeted 2014, being fueled also by the presidential elections.

Although average income per family member is higher in early 2015 than in 2014, there has been observed a caution regarding the purchase intention of goods paid in installments and the intention of taking trips in the country or abroad.

Romanians are no longer as active as they were a few years ago in an attempt to round up their revenues and they seem more relaxed about spending. The share of disposable income is the same as in 2013, although the average net income per family member has increased.

The most common concern of the Romanians continues to be the increase of prices. However, there are often voiced fears related to the outbreak of a war in the region, to the emergence of epidemics and terrorism.

The situation of the employees in companies seems to have stabilized compared to 2013, having decreased the percentage of Romanians who have witnessed decreasing salaries, bonuses offs or reductions in non-wage benefits in the companies where they work. Also, fewer Romanians rarely work overtime.

Overall, the perception on the living standards continues the upward trend started in 2011. Behind this growth lies the reduction of the percentage of those who believe they have lived worse and the increase in the share of those who lived about the same.

Expectations from 2015 are high, being supported by the presidential elections at the end of 2014.

Moreover, taking loans and buying goods in installments stood at the same level in 2014 as in 2013 in terms of incidence. Also, the intention of taking loans and of purchasing goods in installments stood at the same level at the beginning of 2015 as in 2014.
However, the incidence of loans for personal use and of those for housing registers an upward trend.

The percentage of those who made major acquisitions in 2014 is similar to that in 2013. A slight evolution stands out among those who started the construction of a house.

As regarding Romanians’ business appetite, the orientation towards entrepreneurship stays similar to that in 2014, so does their intention of starting a business.
