Romvac Company will invest over EUR 50,000 in opening its first four pharmacies over the next period, the Romanian producer of veterinary vaccines and drugs has announced. The company says it took the decision to go into retail in order to be closer to its customers.

The pharmacies will be branded “Pongo All Pets” and the first three units will be opened on the grounds of Kaufland hypermarkets in Slobozia, Campina and Focsani. The fourth will be opened the next month in Ceptura where the company owns a plot of land.

The expansion will continue throughout 2013, says the producery. “We are negotiating with several retail networks but it is premature to say how many units we will open outside Bucharest this year. In Bucharest our interest is to launch home deliveries especially because this year sales have gone up. We reach monthly sales of RON 100,000 (approximately EUR 22,500) in Bucharest alone”, said Constantin Chiurciu, the company’s general director.

The company plans to launch new products in 2013 and will continue to focus on exports. Last year Romvac Company exported 10 percent of its production. Among the most demanded products on external markets there were bird vaccines in the Republic of Moldova, Albania and Nigeria and dog drugs in Iraq.

Last year the company reported a RON 44 million (approximately EUR 10 million) turnover and in 2013 the target is to reach RON 50 million (approximately EUR 11 million).

Romvac was set up in 1974 and after 1990 its was privatized through a management employee buyout scheme. Chiurciu is the main shareholder and the rest of the shares are split between 234 out of the existing 374 employees. Its production unit is located in Voluntari, near Bucharest.
